What does a home car charge point installation involve?

An EV charger installation requires a qualified professional to carry out the work. As a London based installer, Mayday Electrical has experienced in-house installers based across the London and the surrounding suburbs.

Once you’ve paid the 50 % deposit, we will order and acquire your charger right away and get on with the job of arranging your installation date.

A few days before installation we will send you a text message with some guidance on how to get ready for installation day.

IMPORTANT: For the engineer to carry out your installation, you will need someone who is home that can assist with accessing your broadband connection and check final locations
Our engineers will arrive with comprehensive details and photos of the planned installation. Nevertheless, they will conduct their own assessments and engage in discussions about the proposed setup with you. In some instances, our engineers may devise an improved cable route, and they will seek your approval before commencing the work.

Afterwards, the task involves securely fitting the car charge point to the wall and connecting it to the power source. Once this phase is finished, the engineer will proceed with the initial setup and commissioning of the EV charger. This usually includes “pairing” it with your smartphone, although the setup processes may vary depending on the specific product.

Prior to departure, our engineer will conduct a thorough review of the installation and ensure your satisfaction with the work. They will also perform a few final checks and may take photographs during the process. This is done to enable our office team to verify that the installation has been completed accurately and to the highest standard.

The cost of an EV charge point installation depends on the charger you choose and the complexity of the installation. Our website shows the minimum cost of an installation inclusive of the charger.

Our in-house technicians will evaluate the specific requirements for your charger installation. Subsequently, we will promptly email and text you the comprehensive quote encompassing the charger and installation services.

Step 3: Payment and Charger Order

Upon receipt of your payment, we proceed to order your charger and arrange for its delivery. Simultaneously, you will receive an email notification informing you when your charger is dispatched and on its way to you.

Step 4: Notification to Your Distribution Network Operator (DNO)

Before proceeding with the installation, we are required to inform your Distribution Network Operator (DNO). This essential step ensures that the chargers are installed safely and in compliance with regulations, without causing any undue impact on the property’s power supply or local grid. We handle this notification on your behalf, but please be aware that approval from the DNO is beyond our control, and response times may vary.

IMPORTANT: In certain cases, the DNO may need to conduct a property visit, and they may charge for any necessary pre-installation works, such as unlooping a looped supply. Please note that any associated works or costs are not within the control of Mayday Electrical.

Once you have your charger and your DNO has been notified, we will get to the exciting stuff and book an installation date for you.
